The Chicago Department of Transportation kicked off the public meetings for the Chicago Pedestrian Plan with a meeting at Farragut Career Academy in Little Village. The meeting began with an introduction from CDOT Commissioner Gabe Klein, who stressed the importance of having a street system that is safe for the youngest and oldest Chicagoans.
What we heard:
- A number of parents and children provided suggestions to calm traffic on residential streets and improve pedestrian access to parks.
- Gang activity forces pedestrians to to take routes that are far less direct.
- Ogden Avenue acts as a barrier for pedestrians in the area.
